FREE VACCINE OUTREACH CLINIC A SUCCESS!

                                          Picture
October 1st was a chilly Saturday morning for the staff and volunteers of H.O.P.E. for Animals setting up tents in a church parking lot.  While hands and noses may have been cold, there is no denying the warmth in everyone's hearts.  Owners began lining up at 6am to be certain they would be able to get their pets much needed vaccines, heartworm tests, micro-chips, and spay/neuter vouchers.  A little before noon five teams of vet assistants and two devoted veterinarians began seeing their patients.  The number of patients receiving help amounted to 218 by the end of the day.

Owners were grateful to have these services available to them as many people were not able to afford their animals vaccines this year.  One gentleman acknowledged his gratitude, saying that he had lost his job and would usually have  been able to afford the vaccines, but not this year, not with the hard times he had come across.

H.O.P.E. for Animals, Allen County SPCA, Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry, and Fort Wayne Pit Bull Coalition were excited to take part in the distribution of 400 vaccines, 95 heartworm tests, 80 micro-chips, 30 spay/neuter vouchers, and over 300 pounds of pet food.

H.O.P.E. for Animals would like to thank all of the participating organizations and volunteers, the Ryan Newman Foundation, Phizer, and Boehringer Ingelheim for helping to make this event happen.

If you would like to donate to help H.O.P.E. continue these outreach clinics aimed at keeping pets with their owners and out of shelters, please send cash or check to 1333 Maycrest Drive, Fort Wayne, IN (attn: outreach).  H.O.P.E. needs your support to continue to help the pets in our community.

H.O.P.E. staff and volunteers spoke with hundreds of children about the safe petting zones on unknown dogs and the importance of avoiding the top of the dogs head and not leaning over the dog. Children should always ask the owner of an unknown animal before approaching and should always be accompanied by an adult. Importance of spaying and neutering was explained to parents and guardians as well. A BIG THANK YOU to Parkview Hopspital for the invitation to be a part of this event!

All proceeds benefited HOPE for Animals in our mission to eliminate the euthanasia of healthy adoptable pets in Northeast Indiana.
