                                          Dr. Carol Fretz, DVM

                                          Dr. Carol Fretz is HOPE for Animals primary spay/neuter surgeon, starting with HOPE during it's inception in the early months of 2010.  Graduating from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1993, Dr. Fretz has served the Fort Wayne area for most of her career. Being an animal lover and a spay/neuter advocate, Dr. Fretz participated in the development of  Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control's in house sterilization program as early as 1999. Trained in specialty spay/neuter techniques by the Humane Alliance, Dr. Fretz currently averages 30 surgeries a day, but has done as many as 50 in a day! Dr. Fretz shares her home with her husband Mike, their dog Gilly, and several cats.



                                          Dr. Susan Stuart, DVM

                                          Dr. Stuart is a 1991 graduate of North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Stuart practiced feline medicine exclusively for the first two and a half years following her graduation. Since 1993 she has been working in small animal emergency medicine and critical care. Beyond veterinary medicine, Dr. Stuart likes spending time with her four children and husband, Dr. Jan Hawkins, a large animal surgeon at Purdue Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Stuart’s family also includes a cow, two donkeys, a horse, four cats, six dogs, and a barn full of bunnies. Dr. Stuart joined  HOPE for Animals in October of 2011 and will be our primary wellness doctor. In addition to providing wellness care and spay/neeuter surgeries for HOPE, Dr. Stuart will continue her work in Emergency medicine in Delphi, Indiana.
